Now people want just about any part of the body pierced. Instead of ear lobes, we now see other facial parts such as lips, eyebrows and cheeks pierced, as well as other parts of the body - the belly button being particularly popular. To go with the trend for body piercings, there is now a massive market for body piercing jewelry. Some jewelry is extremely intricate, often hand-crafted specially for discerning customers. The materials used in the production of body jewelry have expanded as rapidly as the market. Of course the traditional gold and silver dominate the market but the trend is increasingly towards other precious metals and other materials. The other metals used include titanium and surgical steel. Other materials used include ivory, plastic, wood and glass. In fact just about any material is used in a bid to provide the most eye-catching designs. There are many common designs for body piercing jewelry. Most popular amongst the younger population are items such as claws, captive bead rings, claw, Prince’s Wands, studs, spikes and rings. As the years go by, more and more elaborate designs will undoubtedly come to light. Body Piercing HealthThe single most important thing to remember after your body piercing has been performed is that you have, in essence, an open wound, and you must care for it exactly as you would any other wound. This means that cleanliness is of the utmost importance if you want to avoid scarring or infection. The same goes whether you have and oral or non-oral piercing. So cleaning is the order of the day, not just once but at least twice a day. The best thing to use for external peircings is a mild antibacterial soap that doesn’t have fragrances in it, one that is approved by the Association of Professional Piercers. Always throw away any cleaning cloths or pads so that there is no risk of transferring bacteria either by re-use or by transferring to others. Make sure that the soap gets into the piercing and wait a minute or so. Esure you get all of the soap is rinsed clear to prevent irritation. During the first feew weeks after an oral piercing, make sure you rinse your mouth with an antibacterial agent after every meal. This will kill bacteria and make sure not tiny food particles aren’t lodged around your piercing. |
